Joseph P. Kennedy (1888-1969) was the father of President John F. Kennedy. During his career he was a banker, financier, and diplomat. From 1934 to 1937, he served as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and was the Chairman of the Maritime Commission in 1937.
